ChatGPT Developer Mode or "Add Custom Connector" Is Missing

This is a platform limitation, not a wptaskify issue

Adding a custom MCP server to ChatGPT requires "Developer Mode" (also shown as custom connectors / apps), and OpenAI only exposes it on paid plans that support it — currently Plus, Pro, Team/Business, Enterprise, and Edu. If you're on the Free or Go plan, the option simply does not exist for your account, so there is nothing to toggle. Even on a supported plan it can be missing for three reasons: the feature is still a staged beta rollout and may not have reached your account yet; on Team/Business and Enterprise/Edu a workspace admin can disable Developer Mode org-wide or allow only specific connectors; and OpenAI has moved the toggle's location more than once, so it may not be where a given tutorial says. This is an OpenAI/ChatGPT product limitation and a gating decision on OpenAI's side — it is not caused by wptaskify or by your WordPress/Shopify site. wptaskify's MCP server is standard and works with any MCP client that can add a custom connector; the blocker here is purely whether ChatGPT lets your account add one.

Confirm your ChatGPT plan supports custom connectorsCustom MCP connectors are gated by plan. As of 2026 they are available on Plus, Pro, Team/Business, Enterprise, and Edu. The Free plan does not have them, and the cheaper Go plan is not on OpenAI's supported list either. Check your plan under your profile menu. If you're on Free or Go, no menu path will reveal Developer Mode — you'll need to upgrade (Plus is the lowest individual tier that has it) or use a client that already supports MCP, such as Claude.
Open Settings and look for Connectors / Developer ModeOn a supported plan, click your profile picture (top right) and open Settings. If you're the admin, look in the workspace/admin settings for the connector or Developer Mode controls and enable it there first — the personal setting won't appear until the workspace allows it.
If your plan qualifies but the option still isn't there, it's the staged rolloutCustom MCP connectors are a beta that OpenAI has rolled out gradually. A qualifying account can still lack the toggle temporarily. Try updating the ChatGPT app or reloading the web app, sign out and back in, and start a fresh chat (the tools/connector menu sometimes only updates in a new conversation). If it's still absent, there's nothing to fix on your end — it hasn't reached your account yet. Wait for the rollout or contact OpenAI support; wptaskify cannot unlock it for you because the gate is on OpenAI's side.

If your connector adds fine but ChatGPT will only read and won't perform write actions on your site, this plan-level limit is the likely reason — again an OpenAI decision, not a wptaskify restriction. If you need reliable write actions today and can't get them in ChatGPT, use Claude, which supports full read/write MCP connectors.

Add the wptaskify connector in Claude's connector settings, authorize, and you're running your site immediately. You can switch back to ChatGPT later once OpenAI widens the rollout to your account. If you specifically need ChatGPT and are on a qualifying paid plan but still can't see Developer Mode, that's an OpenAI account/rollout issue to raise with OpenAI support — it's outside anything wptaskify can change.
